If you have a full licence to drive a car issued prior to 1st January 1997, with group A or B (B=automatic) on an old style licence or as category B and D1 on the newer photo card style licence, then you will have an automatic entitlement to drive a minibus with a maximum of up to 16 seats plus driver.

If you passed your driving test after the 1st January 1997 then, unless you have taken a separate test to get category D1 added to your licence, we will only be able to rent you a vehicle with up to 9 seats including driver. Sorry but there is no exception to this.

When renewing your licence at the age of 70 years, category D1 will not automatically be added. It will only be re-issued if you have made a special application and have met the higher medical requirements.
